Reelect Heather Kimball for Hawaii County Council District 1

I am currently serving in my first term as the Hawaii County Council Member for District 1. It has been an honor to serve the community in this position and I am grateful everyday for the opportunity to make a difference. As a freshman Council Member, I was selected to serve as the Chair of the Committee of Government Operations, Relations and Economic Development, Vice Chair of both the Finance and Climate Change and Resilience Committees, and as the Hawaii County representative to the Hawaii State Association of Counties (HSAC).

As part of HSAC, I also interact with other county officials across the nation as part of the National Association of Counties (NACo) and serve on the NACo Resilient Counties Advisory committee. I was also selected as one of twenty elected officials across the country to participate in a Smartgrowth America training program to learn about better ways to develop communities to promote health and wellness.

A Council Member’s job is equal parts community organizing, interacting with the county, state and federal partners, and writing legislation. Serving on the Grant-in-Aid committee was a great way to help our local non-profits provide for our local community and I have been able to use contingency relief funds to support a variety of important community programs. Over the current term I have formed solid working relationships with the county administration and our state and federal partners. I want to recognize the staff, council aides Lopaka and Bev, for doing an excellent job serving as liaisons between the public and the county departments and legislative assistant Jenn, for her help drafting legislation. I have several legislative projects in the works, including bills on affordable housing, cesspool conversion funding, short-term vacation rental regulation, electric vehicle charging infrastructure, climate change targets, invasive species control and promoting local food production.

There is still a lot to accomplish and if reelected, I will continue to count on your input to help develop solutions. I would be honored to continue to serve as your voice on the Council and work hard with you and for you on behalf of our community.

I humbly ask for your vote to continue to serve as your representative for Hawaii County Council District 1.

I was born and raised in Ninole. For a time I left to serve in the US Peace Corps and also continue my education. I moved back to Ninole in 1980. My most valuable influence was growing up in a cohesive plantation community, all connected like a lei, from Wainakau to Kukuihaele. We were once Hamakua strong, but not anymore. Heather Kimball will make us whole again. She will be the string sewing us together into a Community-First District.
