Heather Kimball is a mom. She and her husband Scott,  have lived and raised their family in Papaikou on Hawaii Island, for more than 20 years. Her three older daughters attended Hilo High and now live in the mainland like so many of the kids that grow up in Hawaii end up having to do. Her youngest daughter will graduate from Hilo High this year.

Heather is an active community member.  She serves in both elected and volunteer positions in several community service organizations. She has been a paddling coach and board member for Kamehameha Canoe Club for the past decade. She Serves as the Chair of the Hawaii County Committee of the Democratic Party and serves on the Hawaii County Board of Appeals. She is the Advocacy Chair for the Zonta club of Hilo. Heather also serves as a member of the Sierra Club of Hawaii State Chapter Executive and Climate Change Committees. She served as treasurer for the Hilo Intermediate Band Boosters, as the student representative on the UH Hilo Graduate Council and as president of Tropical Conservation Biology and Environmental Science Graduate Club. Heather was the co-founder of Take Back Lincoln Park and a coordinator for Make Voting Matter. Heather served as vice chair of the Hawaii National Women's Political Caucus. Heather has done volunteer work for Relay for Life, Pacific Cancer Foundation and Habitat for Humanity. Heather was a North-West Climate Science Center Fellow and is a member of Gamma Theta Upsilon, the American Meteorological Society, the American Geophysical Union and the American Society of Adaptation Professionals. 

Heather is a businesswoman. She owns her own consulting firm, which assists in large scale land management planning, and carbon mitigation and climate change adaptation policy. Heather and Scott also founded an architecture firm that employs eight people in Hilo. Heather has two decades of experience in research, teaching and leadership positions in both the public and private sectors. Heather holds a B.S. in Biology and an M.S. in Environmental Science and is pursuing a PhD in Public Policy and Administration. Heather is also a certified facilitator and a licensed private pilot.

Through Heather's work on the Council and community involvement, she understands the challenges facing our local families, our kids, and our unique natural environment - challenges that require immediate, focused and informed attention. Heather’s technical training, and personal and professional experience bring the necessary knowledge and skills to the County Council to help create proactive and long-lasting solutions to the increasingly complex challenges facing our County.
